Great things happen when local people come together to make their communities stronger – creating opportunities for people to connect, feel welcome, belong and have a say in their community.
Whether it’s bringing people together, creating a welcoming place to meet, making it easier for people to take part, celebrating diversity, or supporting local wellbeing, these grants are your chance to turn a local idea into action. We want to support the people who know their communities best to lead change in ways that are meaningful and practical for them.
Together, these local actions can help build the connected and respectful Tasmania our communities want to see.

- The activities should help people feel welcome, included and respected.
- Your idea should meet a local need and support at least one of the grant priority areas.

Your activity must support at least one of these areas:
- Fair access to services and support
- Inclusion for everyone
- Places to meet and ways to connect
- Power in communities
- Social connection and belonging
- A foundation of wellbeing

There is $20,000 planned for these grants. The grant amounts are:
- Large grant: 1 grant of $5,000 for an activity run by two or more groups together.
- Medium grants: 2 grants of $3,000 for larger activities. These can be run by one group, or by groups working together.
- Small grants: 6 grants of $1,500 for smaller community activities run by individual groups.
You can apply if you are part of a community-led group in Tasmania. This could be a community group, social group, cultural group, club, informal network or another group run by community members.
Businesses, sole traders, government agencies and local councils cannot apply as the main applicant. They can still support an application. For example, they could write a letter of support, help with goods or services, work in partnership with a community group, or provide a donation.
Your activity must:
- take place in Tasmania
- benefit Tasmanian communities
- support at least one Connected and Respectful Tasmania priority area
- be community-led
- be inclusive and welcoming
- be drug and alcohol free
- provide good value for money
The grant can pay for costs that are fair, reasonable and directly related to your activity. This may include venue hire, equipment hire, materials, printing, promotion, advertising, non-alcoholic food and drinks, facilitator or artist fees, access support, transport, permits, insurance, first aid, photos, video and coordination costs.
The grant cannot pay for alcohol, tobacco, gambling, prize money, gift cards, fundraising, donations, debts, fines, legal costs, personal costs, every day running costs, or activities that happened before the grant is approved.
Once the grants open on 14 October, check back here and follow the link to the short online form. The form will ask about your group, your activity, who it is for, why it is needed, how you will make it welcoming and easy to take part in, what you hope will change, and whether you agree to share stories and photos after the activity.

First, we will check that each application meets the basic rules. Applications that meet the rules will then be read by a panel. The panel will look at how well the activity matches the priorities, whether it is led by community, how welcoming and inclusive it is, how it may help the community, whether it is good value for money, whether the area has fewer services or opportunities, and whether the idea responds to a community need.
If your application is successful, we will ask you to accept the grant offer in writing within one week. You will also need to complete a grant agreement. If you do not accept the offer on time, we may withdraw the offer and give the grant to the next highest scoring applicant.
If your application is not successful, we may invite you to share your idea through the Community Impact Opportunity Marketplace.
After your activity, we will ask you to fill in a short story and feedback form. This helps us understand what happened and what the grants achieved. We will ask what you did, who took part, what went well, what changed, and whether you can share a short quote. If possible, please also send 3–5 photos. Videos are welcome too. Please make sure you have permission from anyone who can be clearly seen in photos or videos.
If you receive a grant, please include this sentence in any promotion for your activity: “This event/activity has been supported by Connected and Respectful Tasmania – an initiative of Relationships Australia Tasmania.” If we give you a logo or brand mark, please use it on public materials such as posters, flyers and social media tiles.
Relationships Australia Tasmania will keep your application safe. We will share application details with the assessment panel. If your application is successful, we will also share information about your project publicly. We will handle personal information in line with privacy laws and RA Tas privacy policies.
There is no appeal process for these grants. If you have a complaint, RA Tas will manage it through our complaints and feedback process.
